BART Silicon Valley Corridor Construction
Kato Road Grade Separation Project at the Kato Road and Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) intersection. VTA awarded a $22.14 million contract to Gordon N. Ball, Inc., for the construction of the Kato Road Grade Separation in Fremont. Once completed, Kato Road will pass underneath the UPRR tracks and future BART tracks.
BART Silicon Valley Contract Award
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's (VTA) Board of Directors unanimously voted Thursday, December 8, 2011, to award the first major contract for BART Silicon Valley, to Skanska-Shimmick-Herzog a Joint Venture. This first contract includes completing the design and construction of the line, track, systems and stations for the 10-mile Berryessa Extension Project, the first phase of the 16-mile BART Extension into Santa Clara County. Shimmick Construction Co., Inc. (SCCI) is a general engineering contractor based in Oakland, California with an emphasis on heavy construction.

Herzog Contracting Corp., headquartered in St. Joseph, Missouri, operates nationwide, serving government and private sector clients, and specializes in Railroad Transit Construction, Contract Rail Passenger Operations, Highway and Bridge Construction, and other heavy construction disciplines.
Funding Update
VTA is seeking $900 million in federal funds for the Berryessa Extension Project through the Federal Transit Administrations (FTA) New Starts program, with the balance of capital funding provided by state and local sources including 2000 Measure A revenues. Securing the federal money is anticipated early next year through the execution of a Full Funding Grant Agreement (FFGA). Public meetings are being planned for early 2012 to provide a BART Silicon Valley update.

Residential Noise Insulation
Program The Residential Noise Insulation Program (RNIP) will be
implemented to mitigate project noise at eligible residences in the project
corridor where typical mitigation, such as sound wall construction, do not fully
reduce noise levels above the ground floor of multi-level buildings.

BART Warm Springs
Extension The BART Warm Springs Extension is being planned and
implemented by BART. The extension includes a new station approximately 5 miles
from BART’s current Fremont Station terminus in the southern Fremont. BART
Silicon Valley will connect to the Warm Springs Extension south of the
future Warm Springs Station expected to open in 2014.
